Policy and Advocacy

Jamaicans for Justice (JFJ) is actively engaged in advocacy regarding policy reform around a range of human rights, governance and justice issues. JFJ’s philosophy is to maximize public engagement in the policy-making process. We conduct policy research, prepare policy analysis and engage decision-makers at all levels to strengthen the policy and legislative environment for the advancement of human rights, good governance, and state accountability. JFJ frequently makes submissions in the Jamaican parliament and participates in technical processes to develop new laws and policies. We also conduct projects for international development partners around research and advocacy. JFJ’s has most notably been involved in the legislative processes to establish a National Identification and Registration system in Jamaica, the establishment of freedom of information law in Jamaica, the claw to establish an independent police oversight body, the establishment of Jamaica’s Charter of Rights and Freedoms and other laws regarding public security, justice reform and children’s rights.

Founded in 1999, Jamaicans for Justice (JFJ) is a non-government human rights and social justice organisation. JFJ serves hundreds of Jamaicans each year by providing legal services in response to human rights violations, working on legislation and policy, campaigning for social justice causes, and conducting high-impact research that shape the national human rights agenda.
