Jamaicans for Justice (JFJ) and the Caribbean Vulnerable Communities Coalition (CVC), with support from the European Union (EU), host a virtual sensitization session entitled “Workplace Discrimination: The Laws, Gaps and What’s To Come” on August 25, 2020 at 1pm via Zoom video conferencing.

This sensitization session is an interactive exploration of the applicable laws and policies for responding to workplace discrimination in Jamaica and aims to build proficiency regarding the relevant laws, policies and redress systems which address this issue – as well as, give insight into upcoming legislation that involve anti-discrimination provisions.

In the session, some of the challenges faced in Jamaica’s response to workplace discrimination are examined – including gaps in the existing legal framework – and participants hear from practitioners on how best to advocate for vulnerable populations in the workplace.

Participants leave with:

  • an understanding of what discrimination in the workplace looks like through diverse, real-world examples
  • an understanding of the laws which protect the rights of persons within this setting, and various avenues for redress for discrimination, including how to start the redress process
  • an awareness of governmental and non-governmental providers of support/services for victims
